Trip the Light Fantastic is a sweet, new adult romance by Nicole Bea. College freshman Chelsea is determined to be “the new Chelsea”. She wants to try new things and put herself out there. She wants to do everything in her power to move on from her ex-boyfriend cheating with her best friend. And she finds the perfect opportunity when she sees a swing dancing club looking for new members at school. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Lux, the boy she instantly felt a connection with on her first day, is the president of said club. Maybe this is exactly what the new and improved Chelsea needs.
I did not expect this book to be on the short side, but I think it was so perfectly written that it didn’t seem too fast-paced or rushed at all, which was such a pleasant surprise. Chelsea is definitely a relatable character. Every single time she got anxious, her feelings and reactions were exactly what I would have felt or done. It was so very realistic, which I appreciated. I also admired Chelsea for trying to reinvent herself. She went to college with the goal of stepping out of her bubble and becoming braver than she has ever been. Then, there’s Lux.
This was just the sweetest friendship-turned-romance. I couldn’t get enough. It was really hard to put down. Nicole Bea is a new author to me, but I will certainly keep my eye on her from now on. She knows how to write romance, and I already can see how talented a writer she is. If you’re looking for a short but oh-so-sweet book that will surely put a smile on your face, Trip the Light Fantastic is the book for you. I loved this book! I already want to read it again!
