Trust and Treason: The Rise by Keir O'Neill follows the lives of Jack Walsh and Tommy O'Connor. It starts with the early lives of Jack and Tommy. When Jack’s mother takes Tommy in to protect him from his abusive father, an unbreakable bond of brotherhood is formed between the two. Their lives take a new path after the death of Jack's mother; they are left to face the harsh reality of the world. Jack is facing challenges with his academics, while Tommy is facing a dangerous threat from a drug dealer. With Tommy's resourcefulness and Jack's bold problem-solving skills, they come up with a plan to overcome their challenging circumstances and support each other. This bold decision lays the groundwork for future adventures that would test their unbreakable friendship.
Trust and Treason is a well-written book that displays core brotherhood. What I loved most was how honest and clear the story felt. The dialogue between the characters felt real, using the rhythm and slang of Dublin street life. The plot moves at a steady and engaging pace, building from heartfelt moments to intense, action-filled scenes. The characters were uniquely developed, with Jack's impulsive nature and Tommy's vulnerability, which serve as the major strengths of the novel. One of the things I liked was the fact that Keir O'Neill wasn't trying to glorify or encourage gang life; instead, he used this story as a medium to display the brutal effects and damage gang life causes to the innocent. Trust and Treason by Keir O'Neill covers themes of love, brotherhood, and loyalty. I recommend it to readers interested in crime novels; it would be perfect for fans of raw, fast-paced crime fiction.
