From cute to sassy and naughty to thought provoking and deep, author Kris Knight filled the pages of Two-Story Outhouse: And Other Funny Poems with joy for school age children. The pictures help the young reader visualize the creative poetry of this wordsmith and gain a better understanding of the intent behind the author’s words. From the very first pages, laughter bubbled forth from reading poems such as Two-Story Outhouse, Super Pucker Lemonade and Table Legs. While some of the poems are only a few lines, others continue for a few verses. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the order of the poems, but the majority will likely stir up a giggle within you as they did for us. Through the rhyme and structure of each and every poem there was a graceful cadence as well.
Kris Knight wrote a fanciful and highly enjoyable set of poems in Two-Story Outhouse: And Other Funny Poems. I read these to my young son, and he laughed and laughed and giggled and giggled. We found Knight’s series of poems to be sometimes bizarre while sometimes they had an innate sense of deep and powerful wisdom. All of these poems created marvelous opportunities to open discussions with my young son. We talked about the nonsensical concepts within the writing. We also talked about the profound meanings in other areas of the writing. These are poems that I believe my son and I will be able to return to time and time again.
