Author Biography

I grew up on a farm in southeast Georgia where my summers were full of farm work and playing with my brother and sister. To overcome boredom while working in the fields, I would keep myself entertained by spinning stories in my head. Sadly I never wrote any of these down, nor any of the stories I told my kids at bedtime, which is why I felt I needed to write stories for my grandsons.
So what characters might interest young boys? Zombies of course! This was made clear one afternoon when my husband and I found a little tomato in our garden. It had been damaged by a bug giving it a face with a surprised look. A few crafting supplies and a trip to the beach brought TZ to life. He practically wrote his own story.
TZ’s Return to the Garden is the third in the series and brings him full circle. Here TZ must face the creature that changed his life forever. How he handles this new challenge shows TZ’s true character.
Each story maintains the theme that no matter what happens in life, we can choose to do what is right and never give up. I try to make each story entertaining, educational and encouraging. I hope that you enjoy TZ’s Return to the Garden and if you have young girls that happen to like unicorns and Pegasus, then they will find them here too.

An adventure into the world of fairies and gnomes awaits in Karen Henderson's TZ's Return to the Garden. Since the humans left on vacation, the Spaghetti Moss Zombie has grown stronger. Now his gray moss can be found in almost every part of the garden. He also tricked the squirrels and some lizards into becoming part of his army. These are dangerous times for the residents living in the yard, and they must be on the lookout day and night. But a new morning brings fresh hope. An old friend once turned into a zombie by the Spaghetti Moss Zombie returns more experienced with a new set of allies. Can they defeat Spaghetti Moss Zombie before he causes more harm?

TZ's Return to the Garden is a relatively fast-paced story featuring fantastical and real-life creatures. I found the mix of fairy tale elements and real-life experiences appealing. The characters are also well-developed, and you can't help but cheer for the protagonists as they explore uncharted territory to uncover groundbreaking secrets. Karen Henderson employs basic sentences that children can easily follow. The detail in the book leads you into a world of vivid imagination where you can forget reality. Even more exciting, the events are described and depicted in real-life photographs. The structure of the book will keep young readers captivated. There is a coming-of-age theme and several life lessons to be learned with an underlying emphasis on the importance of not giving up. The final cliffhanger was well executed and a sequel is planned. The writing is excellent and the book is highly recommended.
