An adventure into the world of fairies and gnomes awaits in Karen Henderson's TZ's Return to the Garden. Since the humans left on vacation, the Spaghetti Moss Zombie has grown stronger. Now his gray moss can be found in almost every part of the garden. He also tricked the squirrels and some lizards into becoming part of his army. These are dangerous times for the residents living in the yard, and they must be on the lookout day and night. But a new morning brings fresh hope. An old friend once turned into a zombie by the Spaghetti Moss Zombie returns more experienced with a new set of allies. Can they defeat Spaghetti Moss Zombie before he causes more harm?
TZ's Return to the Garden is a relatively fast-paced story featuring fantastical and real-life creatures. I found the mix of fairy tale elements and real-life experiences appealing. The characters are also well-developed, and you can't help but cheer for the protagonists as they explore uncharted territory to uncover groundbreaking secrets. Karen Henderson employs basic sentences that children can easily follow. The detail in the book leads you into a world of vivid imagination where you can forget reality. Even more exciting, the events are described and depicted in real-life photographs. The structure of the book will keep young readers captivated. There is a coming-of-age theme and several life lessons to be learned with an underlying emphasis on the importance of not giving up. The final cliffhanger was well executed and a sequel is planned. The writing is excellent and the book is highly recommended.
