Ulysses Dream (A Timeless Romance) by Tim White is a fiction book that is based on a true story. This audio book would appeal most to a mixed audience of mature young adults and adults who are interested in the reality of human trafficking, and who can handle the dark nature of such a topic as well as the sexual nature of the trafficking. A young Honduras peasant girl is kidnapped and trafficked by the MS-13 gang until she manages to escape to the United States of America, where she falls in love with a young Nez Perce boy. Will the young couple’s love be enough to erase the darkness of the past, or will that darkness always be a part of them?
I personally found Ulysses Dream (A Timeless Romance) by Tim White to be rather dark in that it used a fictional story to examine the real horrors of human trafficking. However, that aside, I felt the author did a wonderful job in cloaking a true story in fiction in order to protect the privacy of the people involved. The story was well-written with wonderful imagery and impressive character development that allowed me to create a vivid picture of what was happening. The narrator of this audio book is Yareli Arizmendi, an accomplished narrator who has voiced a small collection of audio books ranging from Her Name Was Dolores: The Jenn I Knew to Like Water for Chocolate. Her voice acting experience was well showcased in this audio book with her vocal talents truly revealing the emotions of the story. She did a wonderful job of getting into character for each different character she voiced.
