Dan Chambeaux worked alongside Robin Deyer at their investigating company in New Orleans. And he still does, despite having been shot and killed, for Dan is a zombie. Now, he has to go to a local Big Easy funeral parlor every now and then for a refilling of his embalming fluid and a touching up of the bullet hole in his forehead. But that doesn't stop Dan, even though his zombie gait isn't as fast as his original walk. Dan can still solve mysteries with the best of them, and in this second 'Dan Shamble, P.I.series', "Unnatural Acts", he is on top of his game with his love and one time business receptionist, Sheyenne, now still beautiful but a ghostly presence since she died from poisoning. And there are problems galore for Dan to look into with his policeman friend, McGoo. Local New Orleans golems need proper jobs, Senator Balfour is sponsoring an Unnaturals Acts that goes against everyone and everything in the Unnaturals Quarter of New Orleans, Madame Neffi and her lovely vampire "ladies of the night" from the Full Moon brothel are being vandalized, the Globe theatre in one of the local cemeteries has been burned to the ground and other creepy things keep occurring. What is going on and can Dan find whoever is behind all these awful happenings?

Kevin Anderson has created a delightful mystery series featuring zombie Dan Chambeaux and his many friends, worldly and otherwise. All the many characters in "Unnatural Acts" are thoroughly believable and interact well with each other. The dialogue is delightful and the plot flows smoothly to the story's end. Hopefully, there will be many more Dan Shamble mysteries in the offing and readers everywhere will give this a round of applause and put it at the top of their "must reads."
