Vengeance is a paranormal romance novel by author K.K. Gould, and book one in the Immortal Savior series. Set in Layton, Michigan, our drama begins at the ER of a hospital where we find our heroine, Eliza North, living under an assumed name. A vampire/wolf hybrid, Eliza is hiding from a dark and traumatic past, one which is about to catch up with her. Her allies include empath and best friend Jo, plus a pack of alphas who guard her with their lives. But they won’t be enough to save her from the psychopath that’s coming her way. Eliza needs Braxton Slater, a three-centuries-old vampire turned bounty hunter who also has a score to settle. Amid the quest for vengeance, broken hearts will heal and prophecies will finally come to light.
I found Vengeance to be much more detailed and in depth than your average urban fantasy novel. K.K. Gould has put a lot of work into developing a rich set of characters with even richer backgrounds, and a lore and lifestyle that is unique. The prose is succinct but suitably detailed, moving readers swiftly from one vivid scene to another. The range of different magical beings and powers is sure to impress even the most seasoned fantasy fans, and Eliza herself is a strong heroine who provides excellent sardonic humour and wit, as well as genuine vulnerability when she’s falling in love. A recommended read for paranormal romance fans seeking a superb and highly complex new read.
