Virgin Flight is a work of fiction penned by author E.V. Bancroft in the historical romance, interpersonal drama, and intrigue subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. We follow the story of Beryl Jenkinson, a young dreamer tethered to her family's garage but yearning to soar with the Attagirls, a group of courageous women piloting planes during World War II. The narrative takes a turn when Odette de Lavigne, a glamorous pin-up pilot with a hidden secret, enters Beryl's life with a literal bang. Their encounter sparks a passionate connection, leading to an enduring infatuation.

Author E.V. Bancroft navigates the complexities of duty, desire, and a unique love story set against the backdrop of a world at war. The characters are vividly drawn with genuine emotional resonance, and I especially enjoyed the dialogue elements and how unique each of the primary voices felt. Beryl's determination to break free from societal constraints and Odette's mysterious allure create a compelling dynamic, and plenty of attention is given to the individual journeys as well as the romance of it all. The prose beautifully captures the era's spirit, and the aviation theme adds an exciting layer to the atmosphere with danger and suspense by the bucketload. The clash between duty and desire is a well-rounded central theme, and the author handles it with a nuance that speaks intelligently about judgments and constraints of the period without ever over-sensationalizing the love story itself. Overall, I would highly recommend Virgin Flight for fans of romance packed with atmospheric historical details, well-drawn characters, and powerful sentiments. An immersive reading experience indeed.
