"Walk Around The Tree: The End of War in Vietnam as Seen Through the Eyes of a Child" is written by Diem Ai Nguyen & Charlie Roberts and is a personal account that Diem shares, beginning at the age of four. Diem not only grew up during a war, she also battled paralysis in her legs as a result of having polio. This was a huge obstacle for her to deal with, face, and work through. Diem also had to suffer through her father being in jail and the family losing everything and relocating. Diem takes the reader on a journey with her throughout those difficult times. She also shares her love story as well in this memoir.
This is a very touching autobiography that Diem shares with the readers. It is a quick read and one that is truly inspiring and written from the heart. Diem is such a great example and encourager for anyone who is going through a difficult time or is just yearning for a few moments of happiness as that is what reading this book will do for you. I felt as if I really met and learned a great deal about Diem after reading her story. This book is written so nicely that it flows so well and has such emotion to it. I felt as if I were a part of her life. This is a great book to sit down with and get lost in for a few hours.
