Can two people love even though they come from opposite worlds? War Woman: A Daughter's Promise by Sheri Peppers offers readers a deep look at a love story set against the harsh backdrop of colonial America. It begins with Bryanna, a young woman who doesn’t see herself as a hero, even though she’s braver than she knows. She joins a trade mission into Cherokee territory, led by the gruff and haunted guide Jeremiah, while under her father’s watchful eye. As they travel, they’re attacked, and Black Bear rescues her. He's a Cherokee chief with whom she has a growing connection. After the attack, Bryanna wants revenge and looks to Black Bear for help. Through it all, she learns to trust her instincts, even when others judge her for it, on this journey of self-discovery, strength, and love. It’s a moving read that reminds us of the importance of loyalty and how bravery often arises from unexpected places.

When I first saw the cover of War Woman: A Daughter's Promise by Sheri Peppers, I was immediately intrigued. It suggested to me that this would be a historical novel with a strong female lead drawn to a man whom others would judge her for. I tend to like stories where love must fight against adversity. This one didn’t disappoint. It also went beyond the surface by blending romance with danger and resilience. I loved how I became invested in Bryanna’s future, with its balanced moments of hardship, threads of hope, and unexpected connection. It kept me guessing, which is always a good thing. I also felt all the same feelings she seemed to have, such as embarrassment, hate, and attraction. War Woman is more than just a historical romance; it’s a book about bravery and belonging that lingers with you.
