Wargames of the Shellworld is the first book in Andrew P. McGregor's sci-fi series, The Shellworld Conflict. Jessica Stanner had spent half her life learning martial arts and medieval warfare. She finally gets a chance to showcase her skills on the big stage when she is recruited by an alien benefactor as a human representative of warfare games on the Shellworld -- the biggest artificial construction in the known universe where war games featuring beings from all over the universe are held. Jessica is joined by two fellow humans named Gregory Ivanov and Peter Dorn. Together, the trio takes down each of their opponents one by one to great success, much to the chagrin of the governing authorities, who accuse them of foul play and sentence one to death. With humanity's future at stake, will Jessica rise up to the challenge?
Readers who love RPG-style games will have an absolute blast with Wargames of the Shellworld. Author Andrew P. McGregor taps into his inner geek to build a uniquely imaginative and vivid world featuring servile demons, conniving aliens, and top-tier battle sequences that will have you on the edge of your seat for the duration of the story. The plot moves at a blistering pace and is completely unpredictable. McGregor doesn't take too much time setting up the characters and the plot and drops the reader into the midst of the action from the get-go. This is a stellar start to The Shellworld Conflict series and one that I will recommend to all RPG gamers out there.
