After over forty years as a family counselor, I can testify that one of the most important family bonds is spending time together and sharing emotions and activities. C. C. Lacavera shares this vital activity in What Did You Do at School Today? The mother asks her child about what he did at school that day, emphasizing the importance of family communication. She mentions many activities children in kindergarten and first grade might enjoy. Did the child play any sports, color, learn about musical instruments, laugh, or do any other activity he enjoyed? Giving your child a chance to share their day will increase their confidence and make them feel important. Which activities does your child enjoy? What makes them happy? What makes them sad? Use this book as a launch pad to spend more time sharing with your child.

C. C. Lacavera understands children and the importance of talking with each other as a family. In What Did You Do at School Today?, she uses repetition and rhyming to catch a child’s attention. Then, she shares various topics a child can discuss with their parents. Children will identify with the multiple activities the author mentions and be encouraged to talk about them. The only way you will learn how much school has changed since you were young is to ask. Asking and then listening is the key to any good relationship. This book is a great foundation for discussing your child’s interests, likes, and dislikes. I highly recommend that this book be read together and discussed. Talking and listening to your child will build super-strong, life-long bonds.

C.C. Lacavera's What Did You Do At School Today? is full of questions demonstrating curiosity about a child's experience in school. The questions on each page are the usual ones that parents are curious about in their children's everyday school activities. Still, as you read on, they grow more imaginative, making this an enjoyable way for children to share their tales. The amusing rhymes combined with the colorful illustrations make for a pleasant and distinctive experience! Share your story by responding to the questions.

What Did You Do At School Today? by C.C. Lacavera is a one-of-a-kind, well-written book that parents and children will enjoy reading together. It is not your ordinary children's book since the narrative is loaded with many questions, which makes it extremely engaging. This was the best part for me because it will encourage children's speech growth and development. It focuses on establishing a child's speaking or sharing habits uniquely by using rhyming questions, which makes it both interesting to read and exciting to answer. The book helps both parent and child to have a meaningful and enjoyable exchange. I'm sure many parents will find Lacavera's book useful for starting a conversation with their children regarding activities that take place outside the home, away from their parents' supervision. The vivid illustrations on each page effectively represent the questions while also adding interest to the story. Overall, this is a helpful, entertaining, and useful book! Well done!

What Did You Do At School Today? is a fun children’s picture book by C.C. Lacavera. Using bouncy rhyme and colorful illustrations, it asks a series of questions about a child’s day at school. These cover typical activities such as learning the alphabet and counting, enjoying art and music, playing sports and games, eating snacks, and making friends. The questions then transition to imaginary adventures in a faraway land, across a pirate sea, up a rainbow, through the sky, and into outer space. At the end, a mother and child are reading the book at bedtime, bringing the story back to its beginning question: “What did you do at school today?” The illustrations depict happy, active children and caring adults from diverse races and ethnicities.

What Did You Do At School Today? C.C. Lacavera gives parents and other adults an utterly entertaining book to read with their little ones, which is also a vehicle for understanding and assessing their school experiences. These are important conversations to have with young students. Parents can reinforce positive learning and social behaviors to help their children succeed in school and address early learning challenges or harmful social situations such as bullying. I especially enjoyed the flights into fantasy that encourage children to exercise their imaginations. Children will enjoy the rhyming text and the vibrant illustrations. For children who have not yet started school, the book can help them to look forward to the experience. This is a fantastic addition to any home or school library.
