Whispers in the Night by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is a contemporary romance and the first book in the Ryan Family Series. It follows Patricia Ryan, who is determined to save her community center, a vital refuge for local kids, but her mission is threatened when she meets the magnetic Mac Carter, a CEO whose business plans could destroy everything she's fighting for. Despite her resolve, Patricia finds herself captivated by Mac's charm and intensity. Their sizzling encounters reveal the tug between her ambition and her desire, leading Patricia to question whether Mac is a dangerous foe or a potential love that could break through her defenses.

Author Dorothy Elizabeth Love crafts deeply relatable characters whose emotional complexities and romantic dilemmas are sure to touch the hearts of her readers. I found the dialogue to be especially clever in giving so much of their emotion without over-dramatizing the situation. Her ability to build and sustain romantic tension is masterful, as each encounter between Patricia and Mac is infused with a mix of longing, uncertainty, and intense attraction, making the pages sizzle as readers eagerly follow their unfolding relationship. The pacing of the events that challenge their relationship gives readers a lot of surprises but also keeps them hanging on for more. The confident narration is both sharp and soulful, capturing the push-and-pull between two strong-willed individuals whose chemistry and verbal sparring are a joy to read. Overall, Whispers in the Night is a modern romance that speaks to the heart and addresses meaningful themes of ambition, loyalty, and self-discovery, and I would certainly recommend it.

Whispers in the Night by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is a steamy contemporary romance. Patricia Ryan is a passionate advocate for the DuBois Community Center. She wants to save the center from demolition by the Mackenzy-Duran company, led by their CEO, Mac Carter. When they collide, literally and figuratively, they have an instant connection but clash because of their opposing interests. As their attraction grows, both Patricia and Mac struggle to keep their emotions in check and their respective missions on track. As the relationship between them develops, both Patricia and Mac must decide if they can trust each other. Is there a chance for them to close the gap of their misunderstanding and build something enduring?

The first book in the Ryan Family Series, Whispers in the Night by Dorothy Elizabeth Love can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. Using a balanced mix of romance, drama, and suspense, Dorothy has created a well-paced story that drew me into Patricia’s hectic life, making me want to root for her mission from the very first chapter. Dorothy reflects the emotional states of the characters throughout the story by using different tones, shifting from contemplative to tense, which helped make the characters more relatable. The use of non-linear timelines to give the reader an understanding of the protagonists’ pasts, as well as the use of multiple perspectives, added to the depth of the storytelling. I loved Patricia’s commitment to the Community Center, and the message highlighted the importance of community service and the impact it has on vulnerable communities. Mac and Patricia are well-developed characters. I understood how their past experiences and memories influenced their present actions. Whispers in the Night is a heartfelt read that mixes romance with deeper themes, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the Ryan Family Series.

Set in Florida, Dorothy Elizabeth Love's Whispers in the Night narrates the romantic journey of Patricia Ryan, a savvy community advocate. She is fighting to save the DuBois community center, which helps at-risk inner-city children. Patricia has a chance encounter with Mac Carter, the handsome and wealthy founder of Mackenzy-Duran—the company that wants to demolish the DuBois center. Patricia knows she ought to view and treat Mac as if he's public enemy number one, but they fill each other with the passionate desire they both crave. Every attempt to keep her interactions with Mac as professional as possible seems to fail. At the same time, she has been disappointed by men before. Can Mac breach the walls around Patricia's heart and convince her to give their relationship a chance?

Whispers in the Night is a sensual, romance that flawlessly combines business with pleasure. Dorothy Elizabeth Love skillfully merges the narrative with humor, intimacy, betrayal, family connections, and drama. I loved witnessing Patricia's interactions with her mother and brother—almost as much as I loved following her romantic journey with Mac. She gets unconditional support and love from each iconic person in her life. Patricia is naturally a confident, capable, and strong black woman, but Mac and her family bring out a softer and more vulnerable side to her. I love how the author explores this dynamic of vulnerability, and I relished watching Patricia learn to trust Mac and invite him into her physical and emotional space. I also enjoyed the well-planned moments of danger that became the catalyst responsible for Patricia and Mac's reunion. Overall, Whispers in the Night is a well-written romantic tale that will warm the hearts of romance fans near and far.

Whispers In The Night by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is a heart-wrenching, beautiful love story on the unexpectedness of love and the hard choices that come with affection. A fairytale bump into a muscled, tall, handsome man in the City Hall's parking lot fills Patricia Ryan’s belly with butterflies. But when she discovers that the charming stranger is Mac Carter, founder of the truck business about to buy and demolish the Dubois Center, an art center for youths where she volunteers, Patricia is on her guard. Mac Carter is smitten by the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the Dubois Centre he aims to buy. He is enamored by how she carries herself, never backing down and facing challenges head-on, yet soft and kind within. Mac wants to see more of Patricia, but can they build a relationship with their warring positions on the center's future?

Whispers In The Night builds trust realistically and maturely. With Mac and Patricia in different camps about the building and the numerous circumstances they encounter, be it the TV show or gang attacks, both parties are forced to doubt whether their relationship is genuine or devised to get the center. Mac is charming, sexy, and romantic, and Patricia is a relatable heroine with a heart of gold. The way they manage to communicate, resolve their differences, and see each other's views makes them an admirable couple. Hopefully, readers will see Mac’s relationship with his daughter blossom in the other books in the Ryan Family Series. Dorothy Elizabeth Love writes a steamy, sultry romance that believes in hope for the youth, communication, and trust.
