Wind Dancer by Karen C. Webb is about the relationship between a young girl and a scruffy white mare named Dancer. After becoming acquainted with Dancer, Hallie decided to buy the horse, thinking that something special lingered within this animal. Hallie had always wanted a horse of her own, and now she had the opportunity to finally have her wish come true. The story goes from there on a journey, the developing bond between Hallie and Dancer. In the beginning, Dancer proved to be an overly aggressive, stubborn animal, but in time she raced against the odds and stood out among the best.

The story starts off switching between the narrative and the point of view of the horse. I found this to be an interesting style because it allowed you to enter the mindset of the horse, who wasn’t too fond of humans from past experience. The author used the relationship between the young girl and the horse to paint a beautiful picture of emotions, in which Hallie internally wrestles with her feelings about Dancer. Hallie experienced a roller coaster of emotions. It is an enjoyable story of the development of a relationship between human and horse. The stubbornness of Dancer was softened by the compassionate determination of Hallie. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys stories with a happy ending.
