In the riveting novel, Winds of Freedom by Rebecca Carey Lyles, Kate and Mike Duncan battle extreme situations in an effort to save all that they care about. Together with Mike's widowed mother, Laura, they run a bison/guest ranch, Whispering Pines, in Wyoming. Kate's Aunt Mary is moved to the ranch because of her dementia, and at times it is difficult to determine if her observations are real or imagined. Amidst concerns about running the ranch and taking care of Aunt Mary and a neighboring rancher trying to gain control of Whispering Pines, Kate's best friend, Amy, disappears and Kate fears that she has been abducted. Kate is determined to find her. As Mike and Kate head off to Dallas, Texas to find Amy, they encounter the evil and dangers that surround her, and Laura is left to take care of the ranch and Aunt Mary.
Rebecca Carey Lyles' characters range from simple and sweet to vile and dangerous. As Mike and Kate search for their friend, the limits of friendship and faith are put to the test. Rebecca Carey Lyles demonstrates clearly and concisely through her characters how loyalty, faith and obedience to God can have life changing consequences. We also see how the same is true for disobedience and ignoring God's will. As we go deeper into the evil and depravity of Amy's situation and understand Kate's resolve to help her friend, we get a glimpse of the power, mercy and faithfulness of a loving God. An excellent book that I could not put down. Well written, great story and characters, with a strong Christian message. Great job!
