Wisteria Winter by Ann Swann is the compelling story of two sisters who lose everything they love on Christmas Eve. Woken by a premonition, Sasha Everly wakes up her older sister Linzy, only to find that it’s too late to save their parents from the carbon monoxide leak. Wracked by guilt, Sasha is adamant that she could have done more had she woken up in time. As if their lives aren’t upended enough, more devastating news awaits them when their father’s estranged half-brother and only living relative claims guardianship of them. Things can’t get any worse for the Everly sisters when evidence of foul play regarding their parents’ deaths comes to light. Two lost sisters struggle to find their way back to God and happiness as they regain their strength and overcome each setback.
Beautifully written, Wisteria Winter is a deeply moving and inspiring book. The sisters’ loss was palpable, and Linzy’s description of her parents lying lifeless on the lawn was heartbreaking. Yet, she realized the full weight of that moment and decided that she had to be the strong one. Seeing Linzy’s character develop so fully was motivating. Losing their safety net meant the girls had to grow up fast, but despite their turmoil, the sisters’ devotion to each other never wavered. Happiness is a choice, and the girls made theirs. Ann Swann has a gift for creating characters that move you and lay an emotional foundation. If you’ve ever felt lost or struggled to find your way, then Wisteria Winter is for you.
