Worth the Risk by Cathy Wilson is a story of friendship between Matty and Lexy and their daily struggles, written with feeling, emotion and love. Matty is 45 and still living in the past, mourning the death of her nine-year-old daughter, ten years earlier. Lexy has been her friend through it all. While Matty prefers staying home in upper Michigan, Lexy likes to have fun and has a reputation of sleeping with many men, but getting serious with none of them, except maybe Jeb. Beatrice is a quirky 80-year-old lady who isn’t ready to be old yet. Ben, her good looking nephew, has just come to town and wants to restart her hat business. When Matty meets Ben, she has just lost her job and is pretty sure there is no hope for her future. She does, however, feel a spark of interest towards Ben and the idea of sewing and creating hats pulls her in. Ben’s only hope at being successful is taking his hats to a show in Detroit. Matty, Lexy and the two women they used to work with, Dorene and Tammy, are enlisted to be the models and they are all excited about their upcoming trip. When the hats and sewing machines are stolen, their plans may fall apart.
Cathy Wilson has given me a whole new group of friends. I couldn’t help but cheer them on and anxiously await the next adventure to share with them. Worth the Risk is a short, quick and light read that I enjoyed from the very first page. I highly recommend this book to all women. Worth the Risk will leave you smiling. Kudos to Cathy Wilson for writing a book that is entertaining without filth, sex or violence. Don’t miss out on this five star, well written book.
