Jafe Danbury's X is the sequel to Leaving Phoenix. Phoenix and Curt think they’ve finally found their perfect happily ever after. Settled with their daughter, Rose, they aren’t prepared for the unthinkable. Rose has been kidnapped in broad daylight, their worst nightmare come true. The world Phoenix and Curt must navigate to find her is the darkest place in the world, filled with monsters: human monsters. Someone behind the scenes is determined to stop them from finding their little girl, but they didn’t count on Phoenix; she thought she’d already faced and beaten the worst life could throw at her, but this will challenge her more than anything. Can Phoenix rescue her daughter from the evil grip she’s caught in?
While Jafe Danbury's X could be read as a standalone, it’s best to read Leaving Phoenix first, just so you truly get to know the characters. That said, our main protagonists are developed well enough in this story that you still understand them. They are very strong characters, and you will be behind them all the way. This is quite a dark story, dealing with kidnapping, child trafficking, and pedophilia, but these subjects are dealt with in a sensitive manner. The narrative is tight and takes you on a journey through a grim underworld. There are plenty of twists in this action-packed story, and it will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through. Highly recommended reading for those who love hard-hitting psychological or any other type of thriller.
