Melanie Abbot, the self proclaimed “it” girl of Abbot Bay, is a successful real estate agent and compulsive dispenser of her own brand of social and personal wisdom. When she helps a new girl in town, Hannah, change her image, the imagination of the local population is galvanised. A good portion of the townsfolk and summer visitors decide they too could benefit from her intervention, and Melanie begins to offer advice and “best friend” help for money, until the venture rockets out of control. One of the highlights involves Melanie taking a stuffed pet ferret, that she is transporting for a grieving owner, for a final drink at the bar owned by her friend Conn Garvey. Melanie and Conn have so much history they are more like brother and sister than a romance waiting to happen. That is, until Conn’s ex-wife, Sasha, returns to Abbot Bay. When Sasha and Conn’s old friend, Jack, arrive, the dynamic between Conn and Melanie changes.

Your New Best Friend is an easy-to-read contemporary romance with comedic elements, and believable characters and situations. There is plenty of sizzle and a dash of romantic suspense, but Melanie Abbot shoots straight from the hip, so the reader is never tortured by unnecessary misunderstandings. If you are seeking the escape of a happily ever after romance, Jayne A Denker’s Your New Best Friend will not disappoint.
