In Ziggy and Zeke: Even When You’re Mad by Jeffrey Hook, two little frogs live on opposite banks of the enchanting Willowmere Pond. Ziggy is loud and bouncy, while Zeke is quiet and musical. Despite their differences, they are the best of friends. Each day together is spent playing games, telling stories, and sharing moments on the big rock in the middle of the pond. Their friendship is put to the test when a tempting discovery is made on one side of the water, creating a sticky situation for the duo. Some hurtful words are spoken, causing a falling-out between them. A frightening encounter soon forces them to make difficult choices. Will they be able to say “I’m sorry?” Will they ever be pals again?

As I read Ziggy and Zeke by Jeffrey Hook, I really liked how honestly the story shows both frogs feeling mad, making mistakes, and then working their way back to each other. Stories like this help youngsters understand that all feelings are normal, including being mad. From an educator’s perspective, this makes a wonderful read-aloud for discussing how to be a good buddy, the importance of taking turns, and apologizing. It could also be extended with activities like role-playing scenarios, creating a class friendship story, or drawing their own frog characters. The artwork by Manus is full of bright colors and tiny background details, such as dragonflies and changing skies, to keep young readers engaged. Children and adults alike will truly enjoy this heartfelt book about a big feeling: anger.

Ziggy & Zeke: Even When You're Mad by Jeffrey Hook is a truly lovely children's picture book that emphasizes the courage to say sorry. Set in a splendid, magical place called Willowmere Pond, this story follows two little frogs. Willowmere Pond has two beautiful sides, and on each side lives a frog of a different color and personality, Ziggy and Zeke. When these two frogs meet, they become inseparable best friends. After they spend some quality, fun time together, one of them does something that upsets the other, jeopardizing the friendship. Sad days follow, but then one of them gets into terrible danger that might cost him his life. He needs help. Will the help come in time? Will Ziggy and Zeke's friendship be repaired, and if so, how?

Ziggy & Zeke: Even When You're Mad by Jeffrey Hook is a delightful, charming, and meaningful story that I enjoyed very much, both visually and for the messages it conveys. Through engaging storytelling and magnificent illustrations by Manus, young readers can learn about true friendship, forgiveness, respect, sharing, and the importance of admitting when they're wrong and saying sorry, forgiving their friends when they say sorry, and asking before taking something that isn't theirs. This book is a wonderful opportunity to show kids how a strong, respectful, and lasting friendship is built and that true friends stick together even when they're mad at each other. The author did a fantastic job of showing that even though arguments happen in friendships, what matters most is the willingness to make things right when something goes wrong.

Ziggy and Zeke by Jeffrey Hook is a well-written book that offers children an exciting story about friendship and forgiveness. Two frogs live in a place called Willowmere Pond; however, Ziggy lives on the east side of the pond, while Zeke lives on the west side of the pond. A unique friendship begins when the two frogs coincidentally meet on a big flat rock at the center of the pond. They become best friends, to the admiration of all the other creatures. But what initially seems to be a peaceful friendship is disrupted when Ziggi wrongfully takes what belongs to Zeke, resulting in an argument between the two friends. The fact that Ziggy is brave enough to do what is right shows that true friendship is able to withstand difficult times.

Every moment I spent on this book was worth it, and it is one of the best children's books I have read recently. This book is brilliantly designed to meet the cognitive needs of children and enhance their imaginations. The story had just the right number of developed characters so that children are not confused while reading. From the story, children can learn valuable lessons on forgiveness, apologizing when they do wrong, and taking responsibility for their actions, among others. I loved the colorful illustrations by Manus, which made the story more engaging and appealing to kids. The writing is concise, well-paced, and easy for kids to comprehend. It featured themes on friendship, conflict resolution, emotional awareness, bravery, and more. I recommend Ziggy and Zeke by Jeffrey Hook to children and adults who enjoy reading children's books.
