Lorri Reid is a first time author, as well as a wife, mom, grandmother, and dog mom. She is a native of New England and currently resides in Maryland. Lorri was inspired to write the ‘Zuri’s Adventures’ series after watching her two dogs, Khloe and Zuri play together. The first of the series is ‘Zuri Adopts a Family’, in which she shares her story of adopting N’Zuri (which means ‘Beautiful’ in Swahili), while adding a splash of humor and love.
The inspiration behind writing this book came from watching my two dogs play and thinking, ‘if they could tell their story’. Most people know the dog (good or bad) before they know the owner. And every dog has a story. So I’m telling this story on behalf of Zuri.

Zuri’s Adventures! (Zuri Adopts a Family) is a children’s picture book written by Lorri A. Reid with illustrations by Novel Aji. The book tells the story of a puppy’s first day with her new family. N'Zuri (Zuri) is a rottweiler who was raised in an animal rescue center but dreams of one day having a home and family she can call her own. One fateful day, a lovely couple comes to the rescue center to pick her up and take her to their home. Zuri gets so excited to be a part of the family and immediately goes into the house to explore her new home. She learns about stairs, sees new things, and makes a new friend. Get a copy of this book to join Zuri on her first day in her new home.
I enjoyed reading this book because it is told from the puppy’s perspective and highlights her curiosity and joy. Zuri is an adorable puppy that I could not help but fall in love with. Her cheerful personality is infectious and makes the story fun to read. Like everyone, Zuri desires to be picked from the shelter and have a place she can belong to. The search for security, love, and belonging is relatable, and I believe many readers will resonate with this heartwarming message. Luckily enough, Zuri finds a family that loves her and looks past the fact that she peed on them. They show her unconditional love and welcome her with open arms. Lorri A. Reid told Zuri’s story perfectly and added entertaining and comedic moments that will put a smile on your face. Zuri’s Adventures! contains beautiful illustrations that bring the characters to life. The art looks like cartoons, and they made me realize that the book has the potential to have more adventures and become a television show. Great work.
