Author Biography

Unlike others, I see vampires as victims of a disease born of magic and early alchemy rather than as monsters. I blame my healthcare background for this but without it the Book of Origins series wouldn't be unique. Without it hunters and vampires wouldn't fall in love or work together to cure all of vampire-kind. And I don't know about you, but not having a story like that would be a shame.

Never Again by Alyse Nennig is the first book in the paranormal romance series known as Origins. This is a book that would appeal most to a mixed audience of adults and young adults who enjoy supernatural romance novels and do not mind explicit sex scenes. Hannah Jacobs is a young woman who has had her heart broken one too many times, which puts her off love entirely - until a surprise encounter changes her mind. John Trott is everything Hannah would want in a man; he is sexy, charming, and sensitive to her wants and needs. Yet, what should be an easy love match is complicated by the fact that they are vampire and vampire hunter. Can they ignore the history between their kinds in order to make something better, or will Hannah’s broken heart prove too big a challenge?

Move over Edward and Bella and make room for John and Hannah! Never Again by Alyse Nennig is a breath of fresh air amidst a slew of stale vampire romances. Unlike most vampire romances, this book does not in any way mirror the Twilight series - instead it sets itself apart as a unique romance between two races that have proven to be enemies over the course of history. The uniqueness of a romance between a vampire and a vampire hunter is what originally drew me in, but it was Alyse Nennig’s writing style that kept me enthralled with well-developed characters and an unpredictable plot. Overall, I greatly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading the rest of the Origins series.

What happens when a vampire and a vampire hunter fall in love, but each has no idea who the other really is? Never Again is a paranormal romance by Alyse Nennig, the first installment in the Book of Origins series, and deals with exactly that question in a rather appealing way. Hannah has been hunting vampires since she was a teenager. Both of her parents had been killed by vampires, and Hannah wants to find the one vampire responsible for their deaths. John is a vampire who tried to kill himself countless times because he's not happy being what he is. The problem is that he is an unusually powerful vampire and nothing can kill him. Even sunlight and silver are no issues. When he meets Hannah in a bar, the two instantly connect and within a few days become an inseparable couple with a very special bond. What they both do not know is that their union could mean that the world of humans and vampires would change for good - and some clearly do not want this to happen.

Never Again by Alyse Nennig is an entertaining read that will keep readers occupied for a few hours. The book ends on a cliffhanger - so be warned, you might want to read the rest of the series, too! While I don't believe that people could have such an instant deep connection in real life, it seems to work plot-wise. After all, there is also some sort of explanation behind the bond (won't spoil it here). I found it nice that all the characters had something unique that made them stand out, i.e. they were not just flat characters who had little to say and little value to add. I particularly like that in a book, and a library plays such an important role for the plot - but again, I am not going into details. You'll need to read it yourself to get your answers. I am sure that fans of light vampire novels with plenty of erotic content (but not excessive) will enjoy this book.

Never Again is the ultimate 'opposites attract' romance in that on the surface they seem completely at odds, not compatible in the long run. But once we dig into Alyse Nennig’s story, we find that these two share more commonality than it would appear. Hannah was a woman with plenty of hidden wounds, which meant she kept her heart tucked firmly away from the clutches of a man who might hurt her. Enter John Trott, handsome and charming, and so magnetic that Hannah never stood a chance at resisting him. But as these feel good romance stories tend to go, both John and Hannah have a lot of baggage that just might get in the way of their happily ever after. And that is the beauty of this unique and exciting journey.

Alyse Nennig’s story was a fantastic joyride of vampires and vampire hunters, filled with brutal fights and sensual nights that flesh out this story beautifully. The reader is given a solid history of both characters so that as the story progresses you can see the conflicts before they occur, but the inevitable twists keep you guessing from one page to the next. In Never Again you know both Hannah and John have secrets, but what really kept me interested was that there were secrets of which Hannah was unaware, adding a new layer of intrigue to the story. While this is a romance, it isn’t just a romance, so if you’re into vampire fights, steamy scenes of intimacy, and a bit of a mystery, then this story will appeal to you on several levels. Alyse Nennig is a new author to me, but I wouldn’t hesitate to give her next book a read.

I love this book, I could not put it down. The only other book with vampires I ever read was the Twilight saga books, if you liked those you will love this one. But this is a more adult version and has a little different twist on the human / vampire connection. It has the right amount of romance, mystery, action, paranormal and even some honestly funny parts. The author is a great writer, I definitely envisioned the scenes as I was reading. I love the characters and how it connects the past with the present. This book writes about the vampires as if it is something that can actually be real. You have got to give this book a try even if it is just the romance you like. I love it so much I would like to see it become a movie.

A very intriguing read. A page turner with unexpected twists. I would recommend this book.

My Review:
I always wonder how authors arrive at the title for their books. I didn't have to wonder for long with this title, and it seemed to echo in my head the whole time I read the book.

The voice changes throughout the story as we get each character's point of view. There's some vampire violence and there's some hot vampire sex. The writing is a bit stilted at the beginning, but it smooths out and flows much better as the book goes on. There doesn't seem to be a lot of description, so not a lot of visuals here. This is paranormal with dystopian shadows.

The story itself is entirely engaging. Both of the main characters were well developed with really great family histories. John was keeping secrets because of what he was. Hannah thought she was keeping secrets, but there were so many more secrets that had been kept from her. Some of the secondary characters had some good development as well and interacted really well. How could you not love Price? I'm sure Ms. Nennig will have to find a love interest for him in the future. Chris seemed like a character I'd like to know more about, too. Hopefully, we'll see her in the next book.

I think this is an author and a series with great potential. I recommend this book to the paranormal lovers out there. This just came out in December last year, so now we just have to give Alyse time to write Book of Origins #2.

If you love vampire romance novels than this is the book for you. Go ahead and add it to your library. If you are unsure... read the first chapter and see if you like it, I promise you will be captivated and pulled in with every sentence.

A vampire and a vampire hunter meet at a club, that could be the beginning of a joke but this book is anything but a joke, in fact it is a book filled with surprises and secrets.

Hannah Jacobs is a vampire hunter and meets John Trott, a vampire at a club where there is an instant attraction between them. Neither of them knows about the other and that is just one of many secrets they have. In addition to the secrets they have from each other there are secrets that neither of them are aware of. I have to do this review very carefully because it would be so easy to reveal spoilers and that is something I do not want to do. It seems that every time I think there can be no more secrets there are.

Hannah and John fall madly in love with each other and he has no idea what she does and she has no idea what he is. Hannah's parents were both killed by vampires and it would not be surprising if she hated them. As their relationship gets stronger John is the only one who knows that his secret could destroy her love for him. John is more than just an ordinary vampire and that is something I really would love to divulge but won't. I mention it only to wet your appetite and believe me there is so much more.

Hannah and her fellow agents are assigned to find and destroy the Vampire Prince a job that is more dangerous than anything they have ever done, it is an assignment that could leave Hannah and her friends dead at the hands of a vicious, dangerous and blood thirsty vampire.
Hannah is in possession of the Book of Origins which her father left for her and it is up to John's human friend Price to translate it and find out it's meaning. There is a belief that the book could hold the means of a cure for vampirisim, something that vampires want destroyed and humans would want to eliminate them.

The secondary characters in this book are every bit as wonderful as the main characters and each is an important part of Hannah's life. Is it possible for Price to find answers to curing vampirisim? Could John be cured and live a normal life with Hannah? At this point I want to reveal everything because it is hard not to share but I won't share because it will take away from everything you should discover on your own. Believe me this book doesn't give you a chance to say "What the -----" before something else happens.

The book does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger but not one that makes me want to throw the book out the window, it just makes me hungry for the next one which I hope will be soon.
