In When Bone Melts by Elise Keitz Harlow, Pim is a Russian aristocrat who relocates to Italy. Before coming to Italy, he had been married. A shadow that hovers over the Marinova family is the curse that supposedly causes the death of the second-born in the family. Is it real or just a myth? In Italy, Pim has a family, and his eldest son is called Pasquale, who is a gifted sculptor. Things take a turn in the family with the arrival of Anastasia. The interaction between Pasquale and Anastasia eventually leads to Anastasia being sent to Paris, but Pasquale follows her. How will things turn out for them? Other siblings in the family include Enzo, who is a writer, and Luca, who has been in love with Franca Rossi for a very long time. How will things unfold for the Marinovas?

With shifting perspectives and various twists and turns in the plot, there was never a dull moment in When Bone Melts by Elise Keitz Harlow, and I was hooked from the first chapter to the last. The suspense kept me looking forward to the events of subsequent chapters, and I loved how all the events and emotions were vividly captured, which helped create a mental picture of what was happening. The characters are also well-developed, with each playing a part in the unfolding of the plot, which flows seamlessly. I enjoyed the character of Anastasia, who is not afraid to pursue what she wants to do in life, and also that of Franca, who is determined to become a nurse despite the hurdles. The reader will also appreciate different issues covered by the plot, like those of culture and heritage, social classes, and family dynamics. This was an excellent read, and I can’t wait to read something else by this amazing author.
