Shahid Insaf’s fictional work of three short stories, 3 Tales of Vengeance, is a very clever and intriguing book. Each story is unique, with the main character narrating a captivating tale. There are always unexpected surprises, and with further consideration, the reader is able to identify some well-hidden clues that were dropped along the way. Shahid Insaf developed three stories where the idea of vengeance is played out in widely-varied circumstances. He takes the reader on a triad of journeys, moving from violent scenes enacted by three hit men, to a psychiatrist’s office, to a poker champion winning his first large tournament. The theme of retribution is astutely woven throughout the tales, and the emotional impact of those who experienced some kind of pain and are now seeking revenge is realistic.
The craft of writing a short story is executed well by author Shahid Insaf in 3 Tales of Vengeance, as he enchants and challenges the reader from beginning to end. Each story is concise, yet rich with complicated, complex plots. Mr. Insaf’s writing style is smooth and clear; he describes the many characters so well in a few brief paragraphs that they seem real and identifiable. In the same way, the emotions of each character are palpable, and one feels compassion and empathy for the pain and fear each one experiences. While each story is brief, the intricacies of the plots are truly remarkable. The book is a page-turner, with many twists and turns along the way. These stories are truly extraordinary - and truly unforgettable.
