Distracted by Madeline Sloane brings to life Erin Anderson. Erin works as an editor for a publishing house, and she is highly relied upon by her boss as a "motivational specialist." When a client falls behind or misses too many deadlines, Erin is sent in to whip them into organization and salvage the project. She considers herself very good at her job, until she is assigned to Stephen Spence. Mr. Spence is a highly acclaimed artist, and a southern boy who loves boats, beer, and relaxing... and he calls Erin babe, sweetheart, and a list of other endearments that make her crazy. She is divorced but still sharing an apartment with her cheating ex-husband, and in no way intends to get involved with the playboy she assumes Spence is. She is work obsessed, but Spence is determined to get her to relax, and as she struggles to balance his need for fun with getting his book finished, she slowly realizes things have gone beyond her control... and she likes it.
I enjoyed Erin's strong and intelligent character very much. She was depicted as smart, and also caring. She so desperately needed some fun and romance, and Spence was the perfect guy to give it to her. He seemed like the kind of guy who would enjoy playing the field but was honest and trustworthy, and who would be completely faithful when he found the right one. All the characters were interesting. I even liked the ex, who had cheated, but became a better friend than a husband. Erin's boss played a very good role. I couldn't decide if she was good or bad, if she had Erin's best interests at heart or if she was just cold and manipulating. The different settings were very well written. This romance was sweet and quite spicy at some points. All that time alone on a boat with Spence, Erin didn't have a prayer... or maybe she did and it was answered. Distracted was quite a distraction from everyday life and I'd like to read more books by Madeline Sloane.
