The Smelly Pirate is a children’s adventure by Amanda Bannikov. Knight Kimothin and Tippy the Dragon live in the lovely Kingdom of Smesselleo, but wish they could go on an exciting adventure. Tippy wants to travel to the jungle and meet a monkey because he has never seen one before, but Kimothin prefers going to the Antarctic to meet penguins. The friends cannot agree on places to go until Kimothin suggests they look for pirates. They pack toothbrushes, toothpaste, a few oranges to eat, and sail the islands in search of pirates. They eventually spot a pirate ship and approach it, but wonder about a horrible smell that worsens the closer they get. When the pirate speaks, Tippy and Kimothin realize that Pirate Ben has smelly breath, which is the reason he does not have friends. Luckily for Pirate Ben, the friends have an idea and show him how he can solve his problem.

The Smelly Pirate is a very short story that takes small children on a fun adventure while parents will appreciate the educational theme embedded in its plot, which teaches the importance of good hygiene. Amanda Bannikov writes with imagination and cleverly demonstrates to kids the significance of caring for their teeth, or they will not have friends. Her characters have lively, fun loving personalities. The illustrations are nice and I think the one that shows how Pirate Ben looks with dirty teeth is amusing. Amanda Bannikov has written a lovely story that contains several valuable lessons for kids.
