The Bitter Berry by Jody Chaffin is the second book in the Larkspur Hollow Garden Club Mystery series. Preston Hartwell’s return to Larkspur Hollow isn’t what he expected it to be, nor is it what everyone was hoping for. He’s not the golden boy who left town, and by the end of the Strawberry Social, everyone has had enough of him. But who was fed up enough to want him dead? While the police seem to think it was a tragedy, Nell Ashworth isn’t so sure. She believes it’s murder, and as a retired teacher, she knows when to trust her instincts. But she’s going to need some help from you, the reader. This interactive detective novel allows you to uncover clues through word searches, find what’s hidden, and catch a killer.

This is a unique mystery that puts you in the detective’s shoes to search for clues and suspects in a fun way. Jody Chaffin uses 48 word searches to uncover clues and let you feel like you’re taking part in the investigation. Chaffin provides you with six suspects, their motives, and clues to catch the killer. This will be perfect for armchair sleuths, cozy mystery lovers, and anyone who enjoys a good word search. The book has an old-fashioned feel to it, encouraging you to dig into the mystery. The mystery itself is a fast-paced read with chapters that give you everything you need. You’ll find yourself checking out the garden club and, of course, enjoying the Strawberry Social. This even gives you a front row to a very serious fight over roses. But it’s up to you to decide what was worth killing for. The book also features a case tracker and space for case notes for those who like to take notes as they read. So pick up your favorite pencil and highlighter, and head into the Strawberry Social as you work with Nell to catch a killer. The Bitter Berry blends mystery and word searches in an interactive approach that brings you directly into the investigation.
