Some books slowly creep up on you. I Burned My Tongue in Colorado by M.J. Fox pounced from the very first page. Samantha Li is a social media influencer from Los Angeles who makes her living from looking perfect online. She gets a big break when a luxury resort company hires her to make a failing mountain property in Colorado sparkle on screen. What waits at her destination is thin air, muddy trails, and Noah, a gruff local with a big dog named Yeti and a bigger grudge against her employer. Samantha wants to run a social media campaign. Noah wants her gone. When two opposing personalities clash, who’ll get burned and who’ll come out unscathed at the end of the ordeal?

I Burned My Tongue in Colorado by M.J. Fox is not safe to be read in public spaces. I lost count of the number of times I snorted, giggled, or laughed out loud while reading. The pace was quick, and I felt like I was riding a bike downhill. There are plenty of tumbles in the plot. A long hike. A rattlesnake warning. A moose rumor. Rescuing a wounded bird and so much more. Samantha is at the heart of this story. She checks every box for an influencer. She obsesses over photo angles, filters, and engagement. She is also funny, stubborn, and braver than she admits. Noah is gruff and short on charm. As I read, bit by bit, I understood why he distrusts corporate machinery. He is rough, but not heartless. For most of the book, they felt like chalk and cheese. But M.J. Fox does make the match work, and the ending left me smiling. All the supporting characters helped to bring this story alive. I loved Samantha’s meddling parents and their constant tactics of trying to match her. A few other characters left me curious to know more about their own stories. The animals in this story require a separate fan club. Yeti was a favorite with his husky grin and his antics. The horses add their own comedy. And the disco chicken. I’ll leave that for you to read about. Together they made the mountains of Colorado come alive. Themes of being authentic and being imperfect sit lightly on top of all the laughs. I happily recommend this book to anyone who likes their romance with a side of chaos.

Sometimes the best adventures begin with a very bad first impression. In I Burned My Tongue in Colorado by M.J. Fox, Samantha “Sam” Li is a social media influencer who earns her living promoting products and experiences to her followers. Then she’s offered what could be the chance of a lifetime: a campaign to boost bookings at Aster Park, a luxury resort in Colorado. The assignment brings her together with Noah Barrett, a local guide whose family’s Adventure Center is tied to the resort’s future. His loyal wolf-dog, Yeti, joins many of their outings. As Noah and Sam take on outdoor adventures and work toward the same goal, she starts to see the outdoors, the mountain man, and even herself differently. Can she make the project succeed while staying true to what matters to her?

The title made me smile and want to read I Burned My Tongue in Colorado by M.J. Fox. I found the characters, especially Samantha, to be clever and quite witty. There’s a scene about a camouflage-clad family disappearing into the airport’s wood paneling that made me laugh out loud. Samantha and Noah have great chemistry; their banter about her clothes and what size she wears was one of my favorites. Both of them are more than they seem at first. Fox’s writing is very descriptive. I had no trouble visualizing any of the moments, especially the sunrise or Sam’s encounter with a strange bird. The pace kept the story moving while giving her relationship with Noah time to grow. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” That fits Samantha’s journey as she looks beyond appearances and becomes more honest about who she is. Readers who enjoy the quick, quirky humor of Gilmore Girls mixed with romance should pick this one up.

In I Burned My Tongue in Colorado by M.J. Fox, Samantha Li has turned down a career at her parents’ successful restaurant and instead thrown herself into her growing role as a well‑known influencer. Her contract with LuxeLife gives her the chance to feature a luxury retreat on her platforms while helping revive the Colorado spa’s fortunes. Sam’s job is to attract new clients, but when her carefully curated posts bring in big crowds, her employer pushes her to be more authentic. Forced to work with the grumpy man who runs the Adventure Center, Sam braves rapids, climbing walls, and wild bird rescues with someone who seems to hate everything she represents. She’s chasing likes, but Noah is fighting to keep his business alive. Somewhere along the way, Sam realizes she’s lost her grip on authenticity—and in searching for the truth, she accidentally finds love.

I Burned My Tongue in Colorado is absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times. M.J. Fox writes with a quick, dry wit that I loved, while also evoking real sympathy for the main character. Sam’s quest for influencer fame goes against the grain, and from the outside, she looks like she’s winning. But in chasing likes and comments on her social media feeds, she’s drifted far from her original values. The theme of the novel is authenticity, and I appreciated how M.J. Fox reveals that through the perspectives of different characters. Noah, Sam, and even Victoria believe they’re being authentic, while actually chasing legacy, popularity, and profit. I thoroughly enjoyed the slow‑burn romance between the main characters, and the humor is fantastic. Each character grows bit by bit, eventually forming a unified community and discovering something truly special.
