In The Aerie Protocol, a photojournalist, Mac, launches an investigation into the plane crash that killed his friend and uncovers something shocking—a cloaked Sky City named Aerie, inhabited by the advanced ‘Sky People’ who for centuries have been harvesting Earth’s energy and controlling its weather. His friend left evidence that Dr. Silas Thorne is attempting to weaponize Aerie’s storm-harvesting technology. With Elara Vance, Mac seeks to save the City and destroy Thorne’s installation. He boards the City to prevent it from falling to Earth when Thorne mounts an attack, but faces entrenched political skepticism from the City Council, who deny that danger exists. Helped by the City’s chief engineer, Mac manages to sever Thorne’s link, which temporarily prevents the City’s downfall, but the struggle is far from over. He must find Thorne’s installation and face a final clash with the mad scientist.
The Aerie Protocol: A Skyborne Saga by D. Scott Allen does not waste time with elaborate background narrative, but immediately plunges Mac into a fantastic adventure to save the fabulous Sky City, its people, and the world from a power-hungry adversary. The fast-paced, edge-of-the-seat action takes the reader on a rollercoaster adventure that leaves no time for reflection. D. Scott Allen touches briefly on the main characters, and often expands on their deeds to carry the story, but in many ways, the characters are a mystery. This is a great novel for sci-fi readers keen to experience thrills and spills.
