In Broken Wings: The Broken Series Book 3, K.S. Ruff has written Kristine Stone's latest adventure in a scintillating, dramatic story. Kristine Stone, also known as Kri, has lost her baby and Michael has let her go. Sleepless nights and heartbreak abound. Then something seems to calm her down. Something is actually someone and his name is Rafael Garcia, Michael's brother. Rafael had been Kristine's bodyguard when she was with Michael, but it turns out that he has been protecting her and watching out for her long before she reunited with Michael. Rafael knows he loves Kristine, but he has to convince her to take a chance on him. As these two try to work out their feelings for each other, Kristine's new job sends her to the Ukraine where she is kidnapped by the KGB. It is up to Rafael, Michael and Kadyn (an ex-boyfriend) to see if they can work together and save Kristine from her latest predicament.
Before you read this book, make sure that you read K.S. Ruff's previous books in the series or you may get lost. This is the third installment in the series and, by the time I finished the book, I was annoyed by the main character. However, although annoying to me, she is very well portrayed. Her intense feelings as she navigates through the murky waters of attraction, love and friendship are depicted very well. In fact, I felt more attachment to the boyfriends than I did to her because their feelings for her, as well as their attempts and efforts to win her, were romantic and sad. If you like consistency, you'll love this book as it has similar features as its predecessors. As the plot develops, you grow to admire Kri's courage to learn and try to change the lives of others as well as her own, and then you end up rooting for the couple to be together or for her and a previous boyfriend to get back together. It doesn't leave you in suspense very often, but it does leave you questioning which couple you like best.
