Jonathan McKee's 52 Ways to Connect with Your Smartphone Obsessed Kid: How to Engage with Kids Who Can’t Seem to Pry Their Eyes from Their Devices! is a long title, but the book is well worth the read for those who have children who pay more attention to a smartphone screen than they do to living breathing human beings. I had no idea that 80 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds now own a smartphone and that statistic both surprised and disappointed me. No wonder these kids don't know how to socialize with real people in real situations. Not only does McKee bring his own personal experience of raising three teenagers to this book, but he also brings more than 20 years of experience working with teenagers to help bring ideas to parents on how to cope with the issues that modern technology has wrought.
The cover of 52 Ways to Connect with Your Smartphone Obsessed Kid by Jonathan McKee is very enticing and clearly depicts the content of the book. The plot is simple yet well developed - how to connect with your kids instead of your kids connecting with their smartphones. McKee has an easy conversational tone that I enjoyed reading. Even though I don't have kids, I will use these strategies with my niece and nephews who can't seem to ever look up from their phones during family gatherings.
