Cats definitely have a cattitude, a cat-infused attitude, because they are “reserved, aloof, detached” as well as being independent. When you really ponder this new word, you realize it has merit, given the feline power to expect the same each and every day because “Every day is Caturday,/ Purrfectly and assuredly, / With confidence and certainty./” Ask any cat and they will assure you that “We must be catered to/ Where and when we make our mew, ‘Cause cats come first without exception/ Epitomizing cat purrfection.” Oh, what fun we can have with a play on words and "purrfect" rhyming nonsense, especially when you realize that there are cattails and then there are cat tales. But, there are also dogs and other pets. “Bark, bite, lick and sit/ That’s what dogs can do,/ Ruff, come, roll over, run,/ These behaviors, too./ Every dog is different…” Cats and dogs, pets of all kinds capture a portion of their human's heart and keep it close forever.
Jeffry Glover’s book, 9 Lively Cat Tales and Other Pet Poems, is quite simply pure fun. Most of the poems and stories are told in rhyming verse and are delightfully purrfect. They certainly paint a lively picture of beloved pets from infancy to mature adult dominance. Some of the poems are cute little ditties, others describe a particular memory of a special feline member of the family. And then there are the poems, like “Pussy-Cat, Pussy-Cat” that continue with the traditional stance of nonsense found in fairy tales and nursery rhymes. Any pet owner or animal lover will enjoy this lively and often humorous look at the world according to cats (and dogs).
