Author Biography

Laura Mills' storytelling simmers with tension as she merges romance and drama into compelling love stories. Historical romance is the period of time she usually writes about, having a passion for both romance and history, but she has plans to venture into contemporary and even action adventure. Stand out influences include Catherine Anderson and Samantha James.

Her book “A Brother's Promise" is a Gold Medal Winner for the 2018 Global Ebook Awards for Best Historical Romance and has been quoted as being the ‘best book I have read in a long while, having all of the elements of a great historical romance’ - Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite.

Laura is a Southern California native who grew up wanting to write her own stories, but put a writing career on hold to pursue a small manufacturing business with her husband. She learned a lot about making aerospace parts, driving a forklift, and bookkeeping, but her heart still yearned to write.

Presently, she is working on writing her next adventure! She finds inspiration from her wonderful husband, and their beloved Labrador Retrievers.

Engage yourself in an absorbing historical fiction romance tale with Laura Mills' A Dance With the Lawman. Rachel Martin and her mother-in-law Louise suffered a harrowing tragedy when both their husbands lost their lives in a freak mine accident. Forced to sell her home, Louise travels back to her childhood hometown in Kingman, Arizona, with Rachel. Sheriff Levi Ramsey was living a humdrum life when his cousin, Louise, brought her recently widowed daughter-in-law into his home. Now, Levi is slowly falling for the young woman. After a brief rivalry with another cousin, Levi wins over Rachel's heart, and things finally seem to be working for the two. But another tragedy threatens to drive a wedge in their relationship. Do Levi and Rachel have a future together?

Author Laura Mills merges romance and drama with a helping of Southern charm in this compelling love story. A Dance With the Lawman will entertain romance and historical fiction lovers alike. Mills' prose combines seamlessly with an unhurried narrative, and it makes for a smooth reading experience. From the first page onwards, you get to know the main characters and their backstories, and Mills gives them agency and makes their actions and motives easy to discern. Rachel and Levi's relationship has the primary narrative focus, with their distinct personalities creating friction and drama that is delicious to consume. I also enjoyed the dynamic between Rachel and Louise. Overall, this is the kind of slow-burn storytelling that I love. If you're a romance reader who loves stories set in a historical period, this one will be right up your alley!
