A Freezing Ski Trip is the fourth book in the I Did It Series by Tuula Pere. Siblings Liam and Lily are ready for a ski trip over a frozen lake to Pine Cottage but without their parents. After listening to their parents' advice, they set out on their day trip. They dream of warm sausages and hot beverages at Pine Cottage, but an unfortunate incident with Lily's skis threatens to lengthen the time they spend in the cold. When they see Pine Cottage is closed, they worry they may not be home before dark. Lily's broken ski binding presents a challenge, but she and Liam keep skiing toward their home. The children are concerned as night falls, and Lily expresses her fears as the siblings search for their home.

Tuula Pere offers a story of resilience and sibling bonding. With Liam's encouragement, Lily perseveres, trying to get home to their parents. The brave children have to deal with broken gear and fears, but their concerns are short-lived as they show their tenacity and Liam displays a positive outlook. Caregivers and educators could use the story to discuss the repercussions of Lily's actions on an icy hill and hazardous situations in extreme conditions. The children's position is serious, but young readers will not be overly frightened before the situation is resolved. The fun and uniquely colorful illustrations by Catty Flores complement the story and will draw children deeper into the book. Readers who enjoy engaging stories about children overcoming hardships will like A Freezing Ski Trip.

In A Freezing Ski Trip, Tuula Pere tells the exciting story of Liam’s and Lily’s first ski trip without adults. Although the two children were young, they had a lot of experience skiing, and their parents felt they were ready to make this special trip. The two set off across the frozen wonderland with a backpack full of snacks and supplies. The trail has a steep slope right before they reach Pine Cottage, where they would rest and eat before their return trip. Even though the children are excellent skiers, this slope would be frozen and hazardous. Lily impulsively says she can handle it and speeds ahead to race down the hill. What will happen to Lily? How will the journey end? Read this story for the surprising and wonderful ending.

In A Freezing Ski Trip, Tuula Pere writes on a child’s level about the misadventures of Liam and Lily as they journey to Pine Cottage for the first time without an adult. What could go wrong? Plenty! This children’s picture book with interesting illustrations by Catty Flores will keep your child’s attention. While children often think they are ready for certain adventures, they frequently do not know all that can go wrong. Parents need to teach their children to be prepared for all sorts of contingencies. Your child will learn about the life skill of being adaptable and creative. They will learn to make the best of a situation. They will also learn the importance of having someone dependable to watch out for them. I recommend this book for your children as you open up a discussion about the importance of safety while having fun.

Liam and Lily are off on their first ski trip all by themselves: no adults! They’re both good skiers and they know the route to Pine Cottage well. But in Tuula Pere's A Freezing Ski Trip, what they don’t know is how icy the terrain is. Lily quickly tires of her older brother’s instructions and ventures off on her own, down a steep icy slope. She falls and damages one of her skies. The rest of the trip is treacherous and they’re in for a surprise when they reach their destination and find everything closed. With no cell service, all they can do is turn around and head home. Will the return trip be just as treacherous as two very tired children make their way back the way they came? And, it's getting dark.

Tuula Pere’s picture book, A Freezing Ski Trip, is an adventure for young readers. The language is suitable for younger audiences and the plot will captivate them to the very end. The illustrations by Catty Flores are superb and help move the story along. With lots of dialogue, this is an easy and enjoyable read. The young siblings demonstrate courage as they make their treacherous journey. Family is important, but the sibling bond is challenged when Lily decides to ignore her older brother’s advice. This, in itself, is a learning lesson. However, the sibling bond is strengthened as the two work together to make the best of a bad situation. They may have been proud to venture out on their own, but now all they want is to get home safely. A simple story with some powerful lessons.

A Freezing Ski Trip: I Did It by Tuula Pere is an adventurous picture book for young children. Siblings Liam and Lily were excited to head off on an adventure. The two were heading to the ski slopes for the first time without their parents. Lily couldn't contain her excitement and had been ready all morning, waiting for her brother. Finally, Liam was prepared to get going. At the slopes, all Lily could think about was roasting delicious sausages they'd packed, but later on, this hunger would cause Lily to take a tumble. Will Lily make it to the cafe to eat her sausages? Or will she fall flat on her face? Find out in this fun book.

A Freezing Ski Trip is a great read. It has everything you'll need to both entertain and educate your child. The storyline starts light-hearted and full of adventure, but then things take a turn for the worse and help the young reader learn that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. There are so many points in this book that made my reading experience that much more delightful. I enjoyed seeing the bond between the two siblings and how they overcame the obstacles that were thrown at them. The writing is simple to allow children to read along with ease, and the illustrations by Catty Flores are creative and of a professional standard. So if you have a child who is looking for their next boredom breaker, show them this incredible book by the talented author Tuula Pere. I hope to read more from Pere soon.

A Freezing Ski Trip (I Did It) by Tuula Pere is a kids' adventure story. Liam and Lily are over the moon. For the first time ever, they are allowed to ski by themselves, all the way through the woods to Pine Cottage over the lake, where they can buy a hot drink and something to eat at the café. But this was a long trip, and it wasn’t quite as easy as they thought it would be. Everything seemed to be against them, and by the time they finally made it back home, they were cold, tired, and hungry – and their ski equipment was broken. The one thing that was still intact, though, was their pride – they had done it!

A Freezing Ski Trip by Tuula Pere is a lovely story about two kids going on a skiing journey by themselves. The illustrations by Catty Flores perfectly complement the story, allowing it to come to life as children read. This is probably aimed at a slightly older age group than some of the books Tuula writes, but it is a fun read. Beneath the story is a message for kids to learn – working together always brings greater rewards and a bigger chance of success. It also teaches kids that, even if they think they have failed at something, they should still be proud of the fact that they tried, and it should give them the courage to keep trying until they succeed. All of Tuula’s books are fun while teaching kids life lessons, and this one is no exception. Great story, highly recommended for all kids.
