A Good Work: For She Has Done A Good Work For Me by Jackie Jenkins is based on the first part of the twenty-sixth chapter of Matthew. In Bethany, a woman anointed Jesus with oil, and when Jesus's disciples berated her for it, Jesus defended her. Jenkins focuses on women's roles, citing examples of God's love and forgiveness and encouraging women's active ministry as they serve the Lord beside men. The author discusses God's relevance, faith, prayer, salvation, mindfulness, and commitment as we move through our lives, and speaks about the type of relationship we should seek with God. The book is broken into two parts: the first section covers the material, and the second part is a guided discussion about the text that may be done individually or in a group.
Jackie Jenkins shows the importance of each woman in scripture, beginning with Eve and focusing on the woman who anointed Jesus in Bethany. By using women as examples, the author outlines the usefulness of women in scripture and today. Through Jenkins's book, I could see my importance to God and His ministry. Even though I make mistakes, I am valuable to God, and He can use me to spread the knowledge of His good works. Some of the questions in the discussions are sure to bring on revelations, and they will help readers reflect on the importance of the subjects in the book. Jesus embraced all people and we are all capable of doing wonderful works in the name of God. With God, nothing happens by accident, and Jenkins outlines it beautifully in A Good Work.
