Eliyahu and the tooth fairy are two different, invisible visitors whose visits happen to overlap during one faithful Passover night. During this important Jewish holiday, adults leave out wine for Eliyahu, a Jewish prophet, who symbolizes the hope of peace and harmony in this world. On that same important day, a child of the household, Jesse, loses a tooth and gets a visit from the Tooth Fairy. Like Eliyahu, the Tooth Fairy also plays an important role. She symbolizes a child's growth as they lose their baby teeth and gain new ones, bringing faith and rewards for new beginnings. These two cross paths and learn about the importance of each other’s roles in the lives of both children and adults. A Magical Passover is a unique tale that blends sacred traditions with unexpected interactions between Eliyahu and the Tooth Fairy. This vibrant story depicts the differing practices of these two characters whose roles stem from very different histories. The premise is a blend of tradition and childhood fantasy. I enjoyed the two characters’ funny banter and found it charming how, despite their differences, they both connected as symbols of hope. Their rivalry as they each tried to fulfill their respective duties added a fun twist to the book. Not only was this an enjoyable read, but also an educational one, as I learned about the Passover holiday traditions through Eliyahu’s explanations. Danyael Halprin’s narration is brought to life by W. McLaughlin's enchanting and colorful illustrations. There is a deeper message in the pages, showing me the importance of learning and respecting different traditions and cultures, all while encouraging curiosity and cooperation.
