The hidden secrets of a prominent and influential family are brought to light when a mysterious stranger comes to town and stirs things up in the gripping sleuth mystery, A Promise Kept (A Rick Carnes Cozy Mystery) by David Bishop. Captain Rick Carnes served in the army with Sergeant Edmund Jones. When Sergeant Jones sacrificed his life to save Rick's, Rick pledged to uphold the sergeant's dying request. With his last breath, Sergeant Jones stated that his family needs help. Upon leaving the army, Rick travels to Sergeant Jones's home town. Unsure what kind of trouble the family is in, Rick plans to lay low and surveil the area and its inhabitants. The first establishment he visits is the neighborhood bar, and his first encounter with one of the locals is with a cantankerous law enforcement officer. Fortunately, his scuffle with the police sergeant gains him respect with a large portion of the town's populace, including the police chief and Sergeant Jones's family. Accepting an invitation to the Jones's ranch for a birthday party, Rick witnesses the shooting of one of the guests. When one of the ranch hands is murdered, Rick suspects the family trouble may be at the bottom of the violence. Can he find the answers before anyone else is killed?
