A Silly Rhyming Alphabet Book About Animals from A to Z, written by Simone Da Costa and illustrated by Anindita Modak, is a fun book that will teach children the alphabet as well as connecting an animal with each letter. There is a page for each letter of the alphabet and each page begins with a heading of the letter and the corresponding animal, for example, “A is for Ape.” There are a couple of rhyming sentences about the animal which are sure to cause giggles for the reader and hold his or her attention. There is also a vibrant and fun illustration for each letter which corresponds with the text on the page. The book ends with a short quiz which checks for understanding of the story and remembering what some of the animals were doing on their page in the book which is a fun idea to conclude and review the book.
I really enjoyed Simone Da Costa’s children’s alphabet book. It was more than I expected as the layout is excellent! Each letter and animal has a whole page devoted to it, and Anindita Modak’s illustrations are fabulous. The illustrations go together perfectly with the text and are filled with such detail and are so bright. The sentences on each page rhyme and are silly; thus making it more memorable and easier to remember for children. This is an alphabet book that children will want to read over and over again.
