A Woman of Courage by Marlow Kelly is the story of Fianna and Connell, their clans, and the lies of one old man that led to heartbreak and mistrust. Fianna and Connell love each other and neither knows that the other loves them. Fianna lets the pain of the past keep her from believing his words and Connell doesn't know how to tell her what happened, and that he didn't do things because that's what he wanted but that he did them to keep her safe. After 12 years, Fianna finds herself on Connell's doorstep after tragedy strikes her clan. They find each other once again but once the truth about the past is spoken, Fianna decides to stick to her original plan until she sees that tragedy is about to strike Connell's clan. Fianna does the only thing she can think of: she stands to fight the invaders while hoping that Connell and his warriors will arrive in time. Can one moment of strength and bravery erase the past and put them on the path to the future they both want?
A Woman of Courage by Marlow Kelly is the beautiful tale of two people who had a haunting past but that still manage to come together. While I normally complain that books are too short, A Woman of Courage is the perfect length. The back story that puts Fianna and Connell in the position as leaders of their respective clans is all there and is explained thoroughly enough to leave no questions about what happened. That's refreshing for a short book as normally the back story is sacrificed to keep the book short. The imagery is beautiful and at times it felt like I was right there with Fianna or Connell, or both! Amazing, simply amazing!
