All Kinds of Families by David ZM Allison is an educational storybook to teach kids about the different ways a family can look. Max was adopted from China by an American family, and George has two moms. Amy is in a foster home, while Jackson lives with his dad, and Shelby has a large family. Omar lives with his extended family, Cori is being brought up by her older brother, and Anna has two dads. These and plenty of other stories highlight the differences between families, yet they all show one thing: the love and care each child receives is the same regardless of their family. This is a powerful book that will help kids learn that the kindness we show each other is all that really matters in a family setting.

What an amazing little book this is. All Kinds of Families by David ZM Allison is the perfect way to show children that not all families are made up of a mom, a dad, and a couple of siblings, and those who say that’s what a real family is are completely wrong. Real families aren’t always about blood, either, and what truly counts is the love and affection a child gains from theirs. The illustrations are beautifully drawn and show readers exactly what each kind of family looks like, and, perhaps more importantly, they show the different families as being normal. This is the kind of book that should have kids recognizing their own family setup and asking questions about others. It's also one that I would recommend for all children, especially those who think that they don't have a proper family, because they may be adopted, or have two moms or dads, or even live with their grandparents. This book proves that they do, and at the end, young readers have the opportunity to draw their own family.
