Amanita Virosa by Barry Harden is the story of a man named Everard. He had acted as a guarantor for his friend and lost everything to a huge debt after his friend's death. He is now homeless and is thinking about ending it all. He looks at his dog Molly and thinks of what will happen to her. Should he end it with her, too? No, she doesn't deserve that. Instead, he devises a plan to avenge and rob Dorkin, the extortioner. He successfully executed the plan, but it ended with Dorkin dying of fright. On the other hand, he meets Doris Wells, a woman in her sixties. She has also been victimized by Dorkin, and together they form an alliance to get rid of their community of predators, starting a mostly secret revolution.
Amanita Virosa: The Destroying Angel by Barry Harden is a political thriller that covers contemporary issues of corrupt governments. I got to see how some individuals who have been victimized decide to fight against them. It begins with the life of a wronged homeless man and his dog and gradually turns into a vigilante thriller. The action is tense and relies on psychological fear and violence at times. Everard was a desperate victim who found courage and relied on stronger women around him, like Doris. The book moves from a local vigilante thriller to a national political thriller. The theme is mainly corruption of power and justice. It has a lot of political viewpoints on the British government, and I highly recommend it.
