After creating seven children—Pride, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, Envy, and Sloth—Lucifer wanted only one thing from them: that they dedicate their lives to serving and worshipping him. He sends them to the world to fetch human souls, which he devours for more strength and power. However, Pride, “Saer”, the first, and Lust, “Neyu”, fall head over heels for each other, despite such a union being forbidden in hell. When Lucifer learns about them through Envy, “Errshek”, he forces Saer to subject Neyu to a fate so terrible that Saer is torn apart with regret, resentment, and grief. Vengeful, Saer hunts down Errshek, but in the process, realizes everything was to be blamed on Lucifer’s treachery. Saer denounces his allegiance to Lucifer, launching a rebellion. Will he manage to convince his siblings to join him? Find out in Fallen’s First: Sins of the Maker Book 1 by Kassidy Coursey.

This tour de force will seize you by the scruff of your neck, propel you forward, and remain unrelentless until the final word. If you're looking for a grim fantasy flavored with drama, adventure, suspense, horror, and a gripping backstory, Fallen’s First by Kassidy Coursey is a must-read. Using cinematic depictions and an intimate, visceral prose, Coursey draws readers into the darkly intricate world of the cast marked by sin, duty, manipulation, tragic love, and rebellion. The story unfolds at a dynamic pace, balancing moments of reflection and tension with bursts of action. This provided just enough room to experience the characters’ emotions and connect with them, and still relish the succinct storyline. At first, I loathed Saer, a deceptive agent of darkness, yet as I watched his growth, shifting from cold and calculating to empathetic and even caring, I grew to like him. This page turner is an incredible debut in the Sins of the Maker series. I loved it. I can’t wait to read the next installment.

In Fallen’s First, Kassidy Coursey tells the story of how the Seven Deadly Sins came to be, with a focus on Saer, the very first demon made by Lucifer and the personification of Pride. From the start, he and his siblings are bound to obey their creator, each carrying the essence of a different sin—Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, Envy, and Sloth. Life in Hell is strict and suffocating, and yet, as they grow, the demons begin forming emotional connections, particularly Saer’s forbidden attachment to Neyu, the demon of Lust. When creating them starts to weaken Lucifer, he sends Saer to Earth to locate something hidden in humanity that could restore his strength. Adjusting to human life proves difficult and alien, forcing Saer to confront cold realities, navigate unfamiliar customs, and slowly understand the nature of the human spirit. As he spends more time among humans, Saer begins to see loyalty, obedience, and purpose in a completely new light. When tragedy hits, he faces a choice that could change everything he thought he knew. After all he’s learned about living among humans, can he truly stay loyal to Lucifer?

Kassidy Coursey’s Fallen’s First pulls you into a world that is both enormous and intimate. It is filled with mythology, action, adventure, and raw emotions. Everywhere you look, violence and manipulation expose the real costs of the demons’ actions for themselves and those around them. Hell feels unbearably heavy, as if its heat and pressure are pressing down on you. Seeing the main character and his siblings navigate life under Lucifer’s sly, constant watch keeps you tense, because one slip could have deadly consequences. This isn’t a story of simple good versus evil—it’s morally gray, and all about power, loyalty, and self-discovery. Every decision matters, and every action has force. If you’re drawn to intense, complex stories with flawed but compelling characters, Fallen’s First is the kind of story that sticks with you long after the last page.

Fallen's First is the first book in the Sins of the Maker series by Kassidy Coursey. Saer was the first demon created by Lucifer. He was the very embodiment of Pride. Later, Lucifer manifested Lust in the form of Neyu. One by one, the Devil poured the essence of the seven deadly sins into his seven demon kin. Forced to harvest souls on Earth, Saer and Neyu committed the one sin forbidden to demons. They fell in love. Lucifer's punishment was unbearably cruel as Saer was forced to destroy the one he loved the most. In his quest for vengeance, Saer waged war against his own siblings. Now, the only thing he desires is to be free from the clutches of his Maker. And to do that, he needs the help of his kin.

Fallen's First is an epic dark fantasy packed to the brim with action, romance, and drama. Kassidy Coursey builds on an intriguing premise and spins a gripping tale of love, betrayal, and revenge. The worldbuilding impressed me the most about this book. The lore behind the story will delight any true fantasy lover. Another highlight of the book for me was the relationship dynamic between the main characters. The narrative brings the lively personalities of the characters to the fore, and as you get to know them better, you start rooting for them, even though none of them are "heroes" in the traditional sense. The plot is paced very well, and there are twists and turns galore. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. Highly recommended.
