An Arizona Christmas Ride by author M.D. Ford follows Dee, a young girl who shares a special bond with her horse Hank. Dee is getting ready for Christmas, her favorite time of the year. She plans to go on a trail ride so they can see some of the Christmas cheer in Arizona. Dee is later joined by her friend, Henry, who has autism. They have fun painting Hank with a Christmas theme. They talk about the exciting things they will do like reining, roping, and barrel racing. They look forward to seeing places like Sedona, Scottsdale, and Mogollon Rim. Ford skillfully weaves together themes of friendship, inclusion, and the joy of Christmas, all while showcasing the distinctive charm of Arizona's landscapes and Western traditions.
I loved this story and the concept. This story is a perfect combination of the excitement of horseback riding with the magic of Christmas. M.D. Ford has created a narrative that will undoubtedly captivate young readers who have an affinity for horses. The inclusion of Henry, a character with autism, adds a layer of inclusivity to the story, teaching children about acceptance and the value of diverse friendships. Jose Neto's illustrations bring the characters and Arizona's scenic beauty to life, enhancing the book. I loved the addition of practical lists for trail riding essentials and gift ideas for equestrians at the end of the book. An Arizona Christmas Ride is a delightful blend of holiday cheer, outdoor adventure, and exploration that is sure to become a favorite among children who love horses and the spirit of Christmas.
