Angelo’s Mudventures was written by Ayesha Michelle Menezes and illustrated by Tapoti Rani Sarkar. With the fear of Covid-19 hanging around, Angelo became worried about playing with anything that might carry germs and make him sick. Everything he did now had a new routine that included washing, sanitizing, and wearing a mask. This new way of staying safe caused the young boy’s anxiety to increase each day. How will anything ever be normal for Angelo with such a scary illness going around? Will Angelo’s anxiety be decreased? Will he continue to struggle with his fear of germs and getting sick? Is there anyone who can think of anything that will help the little boy learn to cope and have fun during such a frightening time?
Angelo’s Mudventures will help kids learn to adjust to new situations that have a frightening impact on the way they are used to doing things. The characters give this story a family-life feel that makes it relatable. I love how the plot teaches kids how to cope with new stress and embrace change more positively. The illustrations by Tapoti Rani Sarkar are beautiful and bring this story to life in brilliant colors. I recommend Angelo’s Mudventures by Ayesha Michelle Menezes to young children who enjoy learning something while they read. I hope that Menezes and Sarkar team up in more books like this one to help kids learn to cope with new issues in society and learn new ways to work through stress and anxiety.
