Anubis Fortunis: Psychic Sleuths and Talking Dogs by Max Parrott is the eighth book in the Jaz and Luffy Cozy Mystery series. Jasmine has evolved from a normal Blackwood Cove girl to a student in college to a private investigator with her own business. She's learned how to use her visions to track down killers and how to perfect her partnership with her dog Luffy. She has vast experience in helping to catch killers and has narrowly evaded death. The local museum is receiving a coffin supposedly belonging to Anubis which has brought excitement into the town ... until one of the museum employees goes missing. When they later find the employee's body, Jasmine and Luffy take up the case and dive into the mystery surrounding the coffin.
Max Parrott has found new ways in each installment of the series to create a mystery that's full of surprises for Jasmine and Luffy. The paranormal elements are woven into the story with Jasmine's visions and ability to talk to Luffy a natural part of who she is. Her abilities are part of her character and how she navigates the world around her with each case representing how she's grown into who she wants to be. Her visions provide clues about the murder that give hints about the killer and help steer her in the right direction. Jasmine is a character with a light personality that shines through in everything she does. Her charisma has made her the go-to investigator in her town thanks to the success she had growing up like Nancy Drew and investigating cases. She has a curiosity about her that drives the story and has made her passionate about helping others. The partnership between Luffy and Jasmine is what makes the mystery unique as her dog is an equal character in the story and an equal partner in the investigation. Anubis Fortunis is another charming installment in the series with a new mystery that brings excitement, humor, and hijinks into the town of Blackwood Cove.
