At last, here is a compelling story about sex trafficking with a gripping plot and characters that are as real as they are original. Meet Anya, a seventeen-year-old girl raised in a Polish orphanage. Now out of the orphanage, she is just beginning her life when an acquaintance offers to help her get to America. But Anya discovers too late that she’s been tricked and sold to sex traffickers in the ship she’s boarded for the US. While in the shipping container where other girls are kept captive with her, she hatches a plan to escape and seizes the opportunity to jump into the Teslin River. What becomes of her after this escape is an adventure, a journey the reader will love to discover for themselves. Anya Unbound by Dan Carruthers is a great, unstoppable read.
There are unforgettable characters in this story and the reader will enjoy how character development drives the plot. Anya, Sean and Reina are some of the characters I enjoyed. The encounter between Sean and Anya is dramatic and I loved the visuals it left in my mind. Anya has lost trust in men and is traumatized; she wants to keep to herself but her new found friends are patiently determined to help her heal and embrace the positive side of life. There is great suspense in the story and the reader can’t help but turn the pages. Dan Carruthers’ writing is great and I loved how he explores the psychological depths of the protagonist. Anya Unbound is a story that should be made into a movie. Loaded with action and emotionally charged, it is an entertaining and mesmerizing read.
