Archangel Fallen is the first book I've read in the Spectre series. This is the third book in the series so I've got some catching up to do. If you are an espionage and military fiction fan, do yourself a favor and read this series. Start with the first book and enjoy as you watch the characters evolve and the suspense mount. Cal Martin is a very likable and believable protagonist. He is ex-military and very good at what he does. He is also something of a wild card, which can lead to trouble in the military and in life. C.W. Lemoine portrays Cal with just the right touch. Most of the characters in Archangel Fallen are military or law enforcement professionals and, as an ex-military man, I have to say C.W. Lemoine has a knack for portraying all of them with the characteristics that successful people in these professions share as well as the individual characteristics that make us all unique.
Archangel Fallen moves at just the right pace. You can kill an action novel if you move it too fast or too slow, but C.W. Lemoine has found just the right tempo. Everything makes sense and moves briskly as we watch the good guys figure out the conspiracy. I was particularly interested in the Chinese angle. I believe this will become the focus of American espionage novels in the near future for the simple reason that it will become the focus of American espionage efforts in the real world.
