Aria & Liam: The Sun Disk is a work of fiction in the action, adventure, and interpersonal drama subgenres. It is intended for the middle-grade reading audience and is part of a collection of standalone books featuring Aria and Liam, penned by author Coline Monsarrat. We are invited along on a journey to the legendary Golden City of the Incas, Paititi. Mistaken for envoys of the sun god Inti, Aria and Liam must embrace their roles and embark on a treacherous mission to find the Sun Disk and save the city from impending destruction. This action-packed tale weaves together humor, history, and friendship as the duo relies on wit and unexpected alliances to alter the fate of an ancient civilization.

Author Coline Monsarrat’s vivid storytelling and well-crafted characters immediately drew me into the thrilling world of Aria and Liam. The duo's courage and resourcefulness as they navigated dangerous situations added different dimensions to the plot as they each got their chance to shine, and the intriguing mix of ancient civilization and mystical elements was refreshing and original to explore. The seamless blending of history and fantasy made the book both educational and entertaining for young readers. One of the elements I particularly enjoyed was the emphasis on friendship, teamwork, and ingenuity, as it reinforced valuable life lessons for the target audience. Overall, Aria & Liam: The Sun Disk is a fantastic middle-grade adventure that transports readers on a thrilling quest filled with excitement and discovery, and I’d highly recommend it to young readers looking for an enthralling blend of history, adventure, and friendship.

Get ready for another one of Aria & Liam's exciting adventures in Aria & Liam: The Sun Disk by Coline Monsarrat. While traveling through the Sommetville forest, thirteen-year-old Aria and her best friend, Liam, find themselves in the legendary city of Paititi. The Inca chief Sinchi mistakenly presumes that they are the warriors of the Sun God Inti and asks them to save their civilization by retrieving a powerful artifact known as the Sun Disk. Aria and Liam join the chief's children, Coya and Urco, for the mission and soon run into the Spanish invaders. With the Incas at risk of being taken over by the Spanish, will Aria and Liam find a way to fight back? Can they use the Sun Disk to their advantage? And will it be enough?

An adventure story filled with action, humor, and plenty of thrills, Aria & Liam: The Sun Disk will delight kids and young adults alike. One of the things I like about this series is the constant back and forth between the main characters, Aria and Liam, and the witty and humorous dialogue. There is also a lot of Inca lore for history buffs to explore, with author Coline Monsarrat integrating historical elements seamlessly into the narrative with a healthy dose of the fantastical. I particularly enjoyed the scenes featuring Aria and Liam with the Spanish conquistadors. Overall, this is just what you want from an action-adventure novel. I enjoyed every moment and can't recommend it highly enough.
