Auraria by Tab Stephens is a must-read for lovers of epic fantasy. Set in a world of magic, monsters, and demihumans, this novel is an action-packed thriller. Princess Elisa has received a wedding proposal from Prince Ryne of Vorland at the most opportune time. She is being persecuted by her uncle, Prince Logan, the crown prince of Llanos. Elisa sets out to seek refuge in the titular city of Auraria. Logan is determined to bring about Elisa's demise on her journey. Fortunately, the princess is accompanied by her guardian knight, Dame Lily, and is later assisted by some of Prince Ryne's associates. However, not all in her entourage can be trusted. Will Elisa be able to distinguish friend from foe? Why did Prince Ryne ask for her hand in marriage?

I enjoyed reading Auraria by Tab Stephens. This is a character-driven story, and all the characters are masterfully brought to life. It is easy to relate to Elisa, Lily, and even Logan because they are all flawed. My favorite character by far was William. The author fleshed out this character in such a way that drove the plot forward and left me wanting to know more about William's past. Various plot twists genuinely caught me by surprise. By the end of the novel, I was happy to see that this story is to be continued in book two. This is a well-paced story that allows you to discover the magic and mystery of the fantastical world as the protagonist goes on a grand adventure. I highly recommend Auraria to everyone.
