Bagel Boy by Aviva Gittle is the charming story of Dana who loves to eat only bagels. He eats bagels all the time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. His parents tell him to eat vegetables too. One fine day he wakes up to find that he has changed into a bagel and he has to roll around and go to school. The other students make fun of him and call him 'Bagel Boy.' Kids start chasing him and his friend Byron takes a bite out of him. Will Dana learn his lesson and decide to start eating fruits and vegetables?
I found the story adorable. It is a delightful tale that speaks about healthy eating habits. It is such an interesting way to make children start eating healthy food. Dana's character is lovable and it is something that can be related to by kids and their parents. The author subtly gets kids into the habit of eating right. The illustrations are wonderful and they give life and movement to all the characters and the scenes. The book is silly and funny and kids will definitely enjoy it. It will make a good bedtime story book for parents and grandparents to read out to their kids and grand-kids. It would be great to use this for read-aloud sessions in classrooms and children's libraries. The treatment of a familiar subject is done well by the author. It is a fun read and also a fun way to get children into eating healthy food.
